More or less just an indoor swamp cooler and does a good job keeping a two bedroom condo at the set humidity with no sweating on walls or leaks so far. Have always used filtered water and have had no scaling, scum, or other water related problems, which may also be mitigated by the conditioner ball. I guess that's my fault for not noticing that it's on castors in the picture. So, rather than sitting on my dresser in the bedroom, it sits on the floor. That being said, it does an amazing job. It is about as noisy as a machine a third of the size. It certainly works, and has made a noticeable differnce in the house this winter (and it's been a BRUTAL one). On a rug or carpet, the noise is less of an issue, but if you leave it on a hardwood floor, the noise and vibration (even on the low fan setting) is still noticeable. ...more

The only thing I don't like about it is that the water containers do not have a flat surface on the top so when you turn them over to fill them you have to hold on to them or they will fall over. My last humidifier that this one replaced had the handles recessed so that it would sit upright to fill.
